This fall will mark the 20-year anniversary of Britney Spears' first single, "...Baby One More Time," the track that turned the then teen singer into a star. Speaking with the Guardian recently, she looked back at the beginning of her career in pop music.

“Wow, that went quick," she said of the past two decades. "It was such a fun and crazy time, it was a bit of a blur.”

"...Baby" was officially released in October 1998, a few months ahead of Spears' debut album of the same name, and became a No. 1 hit.

“The whole song is about that stress that we all go through as teens. I knew it was a great song. It was different and I loved it, [but] I don’t think you can anticipate how a song is going to be received," said Spears, who traveled to Stockholm to record the track with songwriter and producer Max Martin.

“I remember being so in awe of Stockholm," she said of that trip. “I was out there for, like, 10 days, but we were so busy in the studio I didn’t have time to go out and explore on that first trip.”

Spears added, “I think Max is a genius. It all just came together and felt right. In my opinion Max is the greatest songwriter of all time.”
